How Do You Count Your Ovulation Days

How do you count your ovulation days. For a 28 day cycle your egg would be released on day 14. The average cycle length is 28 days but can range anywhere from 20 to 45 days. While the sperm can stay alive in your body for a maximum of 5 days your egg lives for just 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. You cannot control whether or not the fertilization will happen.
The typical menstrual cycle is 28 days long but each woman is different. Start with the first day of one period and count right up to the day before the first day of your next period. This means that ovulation will occur 16 days after your period starts. If you have shorter cycles say 21 days ovulation happens around day 7 and your most fertile days are days 5 6 and 7.
There are about 6 days during each menstrual cycle when you can get pregnant. If you have your period on january 1 ovulation will take place on january 17. Ovulation occurs 10 14 days before your next period so you will get an approximate ovulation date by subtracting 14 from the number of days in your cycle eg. Your most fertile days are the three days leading up to and including the day of ovulation.
But what you can do is have sex around the time of your ovulation so that the sperm at least has a chance of reaching your egg. How do you calculate your ovulation day. Assuming a luteal phase of 14 days your ovulation day will be 14 days before your next expected period. This is called your fertile window.
First we estimate when you ll ovulate by counting back 14 days from the day you expect your next period. Once you have at least 8 months charted subtract 18 from the number of days in your shortest period to get your first fertile day in each cycle. Calculating your ovulation day is a bit simpler because ovulation only usually occurs on one day each month. Knowing the days you are most likely to be fertile can increase your chance of getting pregnant.
